The Empty Man Recap: What happens in the movie?

In his search for a missing girl, a former cop meets a secret group that is attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity. David Pryor’s film sets itself apart from typically Hollywood-style flicks by allowing a 22-minute prologue that is remarkably effective.

In 1995, four friends were hiking in Bhutan when one of them heard a sound only he could hear at a distance. He wanders, only to fall into a crack. A friend swiftly descends to see the young man sitting there staring at a terrifying skeleton.


The Empty Man Ending Explained: What is Empty man?

At the end of the film, the big reveal is that there is a thought-form, or a tulpa, created by the James Pontifex Institute. The Sansthan, which masquerades as a self-empowerment group, is a cult that serves an ancient being.

We can’t really figure out what it is because it implies that the “empty man” is just the vessel through which this creature can communicate with its followers.

Throughout the film, we learn that James’ wife and son were killed in a car accident while James was engaged in an affair. He is plagued with guilt for what happened to them and the fact that he was not there.

But in reality, nothing like this happened. The Pontifex Institute implants those dark memories into James’s head so that when it comes time for him to entrust himself to the Empty Man and become the new vessel, he is less willing to fight.

If his whole life was a lie then why bother? Everything that happens in this movie is designed to make you think about who you are and what you believe. No details left. Bhutan Tigers Nest is a sacred place of Buddhist temples.

While hiking in the U.S., Paul accidentally falls into a cave, where he unknowingly becomes a new ship or host for The Empty Man. Until the end of his life, Paul serves as a host for The Empty Man. remains in form and allows the cult to benefit from the unified world.

With Paul’s body slowly being destroyed, Creed must find a replacement body for The Empty Man, and that’s where James comes in.
