Money Heist Season 5 Ending Explained: What happens with Tokyo?

The fifth installment begins with Sierra (Najwa Nimri) following the Professor as she continues to hunt him down. A lot happened over the course of five episodes but it was the final episode that really got fans talking.

He sees Tokyo trapped in the kitchen, surrounded by bullets and with no way out. She is seen reminiscing about the past, opening up about her first love and the first time she met the professor.

Tokyo, Denver, and Manila find themselves pinned in the kitchen of the Bank of Spain by military man Sagasta and his squad, fortifying the doorway with a heavy-duty stove countertop.

The heavy hunk of metal gives them protection from oncoming fire as well as a good angle from which to aim their pursuers, putting Sagasta in immediate harm.

He decides to make a new entry point into the kitchen through the pantry; A course of action that Gandiya fears will take too long and give the robbers another chance to escape.

Their concerns are dismissed by Sagasta, but the argument is overheard by Tokyo, who uses the brawl to convince Gandiya to disobey orders by throwing a grenade in the kitchen.

Tokyo asked Manila and Denver to go without her because she knew that her injured hands would not be able to hold the ropes. Once they fell down, the two had to fill the bottom of the dumbwaiter with as soft things as possible to minimize Tokyo’s fall. But that fall never came.

Gandia (Jose Manuel Poga) and his team close their ranks before Tokyo can jump in and before Ryo can drill a hole to save him. Tokyo gets a few minutes to thank the Professor and to stand by Ryo and remind her of the situation before she starts shooting in earnest.

That stunt inflicted many more wounds on him. But he did not take his last step until Gandiya stood on top of him. Smiling at him, he showed an active grenade. Unless Tokyo was able to survive at least a dozen gunshot wounds and literally explosions, our cunning narrator is gone.
