Dexter Review: Is the show worth a watch?
Daniel’s death demonstrated, as I’ve said several times this season, how poor an assassin was compared to Dexter. He certainly comes second in a straight fight with only a pen as a weapon.
I took the choice of this weapon as some attempt at irony on the part of the writers, where they have killed the characters with their own pen for all these years, and now Dexter makes his final kill using one.
I hope they laughed as they wrote this, because if that was the intention, it wasn’t funny. Dexter moved on after Maria’s death but Deb was lost. She has quit her job and joined the private sector as a bounty hunter.
She wants nothing to do with Dexter and has resorted to alcohol and drugs. The transition from Dexter’s serene calmness to Debra’s chaotic desperation was done beautifully.
But the biggest trouble I have with this episode is Dr. Evelyn Vogel. He is a new character introduced in this episode. She is a neurophysicist who advises on cases dealing with serial killers and has been nicknamed the “Psychopath Whisperer” by the FBI.
She thinks she knows the secret of Dexter and his early life. Vogel’s eyes seem to wander here and there and his acting seems half-baked to me which was very distracting to me.
It looks like she is channeling Hannibal, smile on face, and then slowly speaking dialogue, but I think this character needs a more serious approach, maybe her character in this period evolve and let us know more about it.
