One Punch Man Season 2 Ending Explained: What happens with Saitama?
One-Punch Man Season 2 finale episode ended with a bang, but not with a bang, as the story was left on a strange note. Debuting in Japan in late 2015, One-Punch Man quickly struck a chord with anime fans, while also garnering strong crossover appeal around the world.
The adventures of Saitama, a man frustrated by his habit of defeating any opponent with a single blow, blend comedy with brilliant animated fight sequences and added elements of the anime genre to hilarious effect.
The final three episodes of Season 2 make this more clear: Garo, despite being the Hero Hunter, is also the actual hero of the second season, having inherited the role of Saitama and to a lesser extent Genos.
He counteracts his obsession with a perverted interest in “fair game” that makes him the protagonist of his story as a whole,
And the structure of fights such as his confrontation against Death Gatling’s squad calculates this supposed villain to be a serious Dalits is used to portray them as compelling sympathizers from the audience.
The whole thing is straight out of a Pro Wrestling booking rule book: Put a character against impossible odds, and the audience will start to root for him.
Season 2 of One-Punch Man comes to an abrupt end, sparking an alliance between Garou and the Monster Association, while Genos continues on his quest to be worthy of Saitama’s attention.
The sophomore season served as 12 episodes of a largely set-up, with its powerful protagonist largely distracted as new threats to Garou and the Monster Association arise.
While Garou and the Monster Association will likely join forces for a third season, it’s unclear how this confrontation, and its predicted apocalypse, will play out, but the world’s best hope probably lies in Saitama’s general immense punching prowess.
