In January 2020, the Navarro College Bulldogs cheer team and its coach, Monica Aldma, became a reality TV star with the release of Cheer on Netflix.

Variety reported that Cheer began filming its second season in January 2020, before production was halted due to the pandemic and the cancellation of the NCA competition. Filming reportedly resumed in September 2020.
