Don’t Look Up Ending & Credits Scene Explained:
In the first credits scene, we cut to 22,740 years later when the ship arrives at a new planet and its occupants are freed from their cryo-chambers. Peter announced that 58% of the chambers were successful, including a host, President Orlean.
She doesn’t last long, though she goes to greet Brontk, one of the planet’s beasts, and is eaten alive. The rest of the Bronteroks descend on the rest of the wealthy survivors as the film turns black.
There’s a final kicker, though we return to Earth 22,740 years ago in the post-credits scene. President Orlean’s son Jason crawled out of the rubble of the bunker from where the BASH mission was being carried out.
The BASH mission doesn’t go as planned, and as it begins to fail, President Orlean and Peter Isherwell escape on a planned ship to find another habitable planet. Orlean’s son is left behind, which he later discovers but doesn’t care about.
President Orlean called Randall and offered him a place on the ship with someone else, but he turned it down. Instead, Randall goes home with his wife to Kate, Dr. Oglethorpe, and Yule as the comet nears Earth.
They all sit together and have dinner and discuss how they at least tried. The comet finally strikes in Don’t Look Up and destroys the entire planet almost immediately, but Bash’s ship leaves prematurely.
In case the signposts weren’t crystal clear for some reason, the entirety of “Don’t Look Up” is about the climate crisis facing our planet. The comet is the impending doom brought on by climate change, and the characters characterize what’s happening in real life.
Yes, there are only slightly exaggerated versions of that – scientists are being told to “sit tight and assess”; the news media is being wrapped up more in a celebrity breakup than the fate of the world; major corporations lose every ounce of profit.
No matter what it means for the future of the planet. President Orlean and his ship’s passengers manage to break away from Earth, flying to another planet. But during the mid-credits scene of Don’t Look Up, We see that they cannot save themselves.

The group awakens from cryogenic sleep and walks by ship to a beautiful planet. But before they can really enjoy their new reality, a giant bird-like creature attacks the President, and more emerge. It is believed that they are all killed by these creatures.
Don’t watch the last two scenes after the credits. The first is a mid-credits scene that takes place “22,740 years later”. The fleeing ship with all the rich has finally found a habitable planet to land.
Meryl Streep, Mark Rylance, and others wake up naked in what seems like a heavenly world, where oxygen levels are higher than on Earth. Meryl Streep sees a strange, Dr. Seuss-like creature and she turns to him in surprise:
“My goodness, what a beautiful creature!” The creature immediately eats Meryl Streep’s face, killing her. Mark Rylance announces that the creature is named “Brontarok”, fulfilling his earlier algorithm-based prediction of how Meryl Streep will die.
