Lost in Space Season 2 Ending Explained: What happens with Robot & Engines?

Lost in Space Season 2 was all about robots and engines. The big reveal comes when Maureen and John Robinson learn that the colony ship Resolute was able to jump back and forth between Earth and Alpha Centauri thanks to an alien engine,

And an alien robot pilot named Scarecrow. The reason the robot – that is Will’s robot – boarded the Resolute to start back at the beginning of the series, was to save the Scarecrow.

It all makes sense now – and the colonists who happen to be now know all that these alien robots like to defend themselves, no matter where else, no matter what. This is what happened in the season 1 finale when SAR attacked the Robinson family while trying to retrieve the robot.

It happened again in the Season 2 finale when Resolute was attacked by a whole bunch of murderous robots in an attempt to retrieve their lost robot engine.

The colonists had to make a strong call to survive an attack from a ship full of robots. With only one alien engine and the siege of Resolute, there was no way for all humans to board a Jupiter ship and jump onto Alpha Centauri.

The robot stabs Will’s heart, but it is ineffective because it is a new mechanical heart with some robot inside it. This affects the robot, and suddenly, it transforms into Will’s robot. The robot destroys the engine and then says, “Safe, family.”

The battle has been won, but Alpha Centauri needs to be rebuilt after the destruction. However, they at least have robots. The robots run their own commands and are independent while Maureen creates new technology.

Smith decides to write a confession for his crimes and is imprisoned. Maureen visits him and learns that her real name is Jessica. Maureen tells her that when she leaves, she wants Smith to see her.

Lost in Space has a happy ending, with civilization enjoying a new home with many new possibilities, while Will enjoys exploring as part of a human-robot exploratory group. While there is war, it is a heartfelt farewell to the Robinson family.
