After Life is a British black comedy-drama streaming television series created, written, produced and directed by Ricky Gervais, who also stars.

It premiered on Netflix on 8 March 2019. The second series premiered on 24 April 2020. The third and final season premiered on 14 January 2022.

The final episode ends at a city fair, and there’s a lot of community, joy, and laughter. Cath agrees to get a rescue dog, and Tony helps with his application.

He appreciates the importance of having a partner. Cath soon bumps into Pat, and they quickly get along, so Tony leaves them. The finale ends with Tony seeing happiness and people around him. He admires the joy of the world and the people living in it.

He misses Lisa and the joy they had. However, the series ends with the character finding a new purpose in life; Enjoy it as much as you can, and spread the love to those close to you.

He has gone from a bitter, cruel, and angry person to someone who can be admired and trusted. We can only assume that Tony will continue to attend hospice and make people laugh for the rest of his days.

Throughout the series, Tony is trying his best to move on from the death of his late wife, Lisa, but as most of us know, those who have lost someone have to do so. Far easier said than done.

In season three, we see Tony refusing to act on his feelings for Emma, the nurse who looked after his now-departed father. Despite his efforts to bond with her and bond with her, it sadly never matches up as he constantly compares her to Lisa, and Emma just can’t compete.

They eventually call time on their situation, with Lisa being offered a date with an old classmate, whom Tony encourages. Show creator Ricky Gervais chats with Tilly Pearce at Digital Spy about what the ending of Afterlife Season 3 really means.

“That’s all life goes on, you know? When we’re all dead and buried, that field is still there, the Tambri Fair is still going on, that tree is still there, and this Basically it is said that we all die, but not today,” he told them.

“That’s what the end is saying. ‘We all die, but not today. Enjoy it as long as you can, life is so limited. Whenever you are born, and whenever you die, everything is over So enjoy that bit, that little bit.

As Anne and Tony talk in a bunch together, there’s a really cool moment as the latter reveals how he met his wife. Tony was pretending to be a writer at the time.

Lisa was an artist out of college and actually had an exhibition at the fair. He thought he was interested in a piece of her, but in reality, he was interested in her. When he found out that he had no money, he decided to buy dinner instead. The pair hit it off immediately.

Although like Anne, Tony has his own regrets. Especially about teasing him about the afterlife and angels. Anne reminds him that there are innumerable angels on earth who save lives. “You’re my angel, Tony.” She accepts, as the pair sit together reflecting on life.
