In the second book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Kirrigan focuses on achieving Alina.
That new power of his will likely be what he has in the book: after escaping from the fold, he can reveal shadow beings. This means trouble ahead for sure. Kirrigan was revealed as the Black Heretic in the Netflix series, which means she’s the one who created the fold in the first place.
It makes sense, then, that he was not only able to survive his encounter with the volcano, but also emerge from the darkness with a new, terrifying force. However, he now has some serious scars on his face to show off his feud with the residents of the Shadow Fold.
