The Gilded Age Season 1 Ending Explained: What does it mean for season 2?

Coon and Spector’s opponents to Bertha and George Russell are, in large part, Paper Tiger. It’s a classic fella trick to establish that his characters face opposition, and then to simply roll over that opposition, bringing instant gratification.

And Bertha’s occasional genuine fall—moments when she faces a social barrier she can’t fix—brings new vocals to Coon’s wild performance. A recent scene in which she is escorted out the back door from the Newport mansion to be overlooked by the matron of the house,

With Coon enduring the pangs of humiliation as his scream queen, is a horror film. Played like that. Mr. Rikes. He shows Van Rijn’s not looking for Marion but to deliver a letter to Peggy.

Here comes the episode’s first bombshell moment: Peggy, you’ll remember, hired Mr. Raikes to oversee a personal matter of utmost secrecy, and it’s all about to unfold, thanks to Miss Armstrong’s intervention.

Armstrong, Agnes’ lady’s maid, is out for Peggy because of racism, and she accepts the letter and reads about Peggy’s secret, before giving it to literally everyone in Van Rijn’s house.

Mrs. Bauer from Cook to Aunt Ada to Peggy knows that there are only bad intentions in everything Armstrong does, and it’s true: she tells Agnes what was in the letter. As Marion’s cousin, Aurora Fenn (Kelly O’Hara) observes as she sees Likes across town,

Miss Brooke’s lover is enamored of the privileged life of New York high society. Raikes will have to give it up and support Marianne if they marry, a prospect she eventually doesn’t like. Instead, Rikes takes the cowardly route and plans to end things with a letter before confronting Marion in his office.

With his story unraveling, it is unclear whether Tom Rikes will return in The Gilded Age Season 2. However, the series has already sparked a possible romance between Marion and Larry Russell.

They form a friendship and Larry quickly rescues Marion at the ball, setting the stage for a relationship that would surely earn the displeasure of Russell and Aunt Agnes.

We hope that most of the events of this finale set the stage for the incredible Season 2. We already know that one is coming, and of course, with that in mind, we already feel the excitement of how this world is going to change.

The Gilded Age is a period of great change and yet, it is not like everything happens overnight. If you’re already familiar with the writings of Julian Fellowes, you know that things can get slow at times.
